Roles and Responsibilities
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Executive Director shall be responsible for implementing the Board’s policies and managing the day-to-day operations of the organization. The ED’s responsibilities shall include but not be limited to, leading the staff and volunteers, managing programs and services, developing and implementing strategic plans, representing the organization externally, and reporting to the Board.
DEPUTY DIRECTOR FOR ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE
Shall be responsible to direct and supervise the development and updating of policies and appropriate financial and administrative procedures concerning the financial health of the organization, including donor contributions. The DDAF’s responsibilities shall also include overseeing budgeting, financial forecasting, cash flow, and coordinating audit activities of the organization.
DEPUTY DIRECTOR FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & SUSTAINABILITY
Shall be responsible to engage underserved and marginalized communities are impacted by the programs designed to bring about change in those communities. The DDCES responsibilities shall also involve ensuring that the organization develops the capacity to sustain itself over the long term in order to fulfill its mission.
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
Shall be responsible to initiate, identify, implement, and evaluate the performance and risks associated with the organization’s core projects related to education, agriculture, and health.
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR TECHNOLOGY & COMMUNICATIONS
Shall be responsible to oversee all facets of the daily operations of the IT department, ensuring compliance with the organization’s policies, state and federal laws and regulations. The ADTC shall also be responsible to facilitate efficient flow of internal and external communications to various departments and stakeholders.
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR RESEARCH & POLICY
Shall be responsible for policy development, research and analysis, communications, advocacy, and strategic planning, among others. ADPR shall play a crucial role in shaping and guiding the organization’s policy initiatives; the ADPR shall work closely with a broad range of teams that include communications and grant making expertise to determine the best way to achieve change. Further, the ADPR shall be responsible to develop the Code of Ethics & Integrity Guidelines for the institute, and assist in the development of a 3-to 5 year Strategic Plan for the institute.
MANAGER FOR PROGRAMS AND INNOVATIONLICY
Shall be responsible for designing, coordinating, and improving the internal and external programs for the institute; shall be responsible to ensure that all programs align with the strategic vision and mission. As the institute’s Resident Thinker, the MPI will conceive and develop innovative ideas to be recommended to the Board for consideration.
DIRECTOR FOR INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT & COORDINATOR FOR POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION
Shall be responsible to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to set and achieve the goals and objectives of the institute, including but not limited to organizing postsecondary education leading to the formation of a community college. Will ensure that a collaborative relationship is build with its sister organization, The Marcus Garvey Institute. Shall assist with planning fundraising and friend raising initiatives; and shall develop strategic collaborations with national and international institutions to broaden and enhance the institute.
